The inaugural Al-Futtaim Cricket Invitational took place on the 21st and 22nd February, hosted by the Employee Relations Department of Al-Futtaim's Group Human Resources with 36 teams and more than 430 players competing for the title.
As well as revealing an incredible wealth of cricketing talent among Al-Futtaim's associates, the enthusiasm of the tournament's participants and spectators reaffirmed the many advantages that company sports events can offer, both to the employees and to the company, not least by promoting healthy activity, increasing teamwork, giving back to the employees and boosting camaraderie.
The standard of cricket on display was extremely impressive, and the quarter finals, semi finals and final were thoroughly entertaining. Al-Futtaim Logistics' Team A won the tournament in a thrilling final against Al-Futtaim Logistics' Team B, upholding their composure despite an early setback to score the winning run off the last ball for a total of minus five.
The tournament champion was Al-Futtaim Logistics' Team A, captained by Raman Kumar. Player of the tournament was named as Sunil Kondiba, Best Batsman went to Mohamed Amjath, and Best Bowler was Shahid Moosa, all from Al-Futtaim Logistics. Best Female Player of the tournament was Gemmalyn Asuria, also from Al-Futtaim Logistics.
